From Tiny Pup to Life-Changing Partner
Oakley came into The Guiding Paw program as a bright-eyed Australian Shepherd puppy with boundless energy and an instinct to connect. From his very first days, it was clear he was something special — the kind of dog that watches you, reads you, and shows up for you without being asked.
Over nine months of dedicated training, socialization, and love, Oakley has been shaped and is on his way to become a fully trained PTSD service dog. He has learned to interrupt anxiety spirals, provide deep pressure therapy, create space in crowded environments, and simply be present in the way that only a great dog can be.
On September 18th, Oakley leaves for Alabama to meet his forever person — a girl in college whose life he is about to change. This page is our way of celebrating every moment that got him there.

Nine Months, One Mission
Foundation & Bonding
Oakley joined The Guiding Paw program and began building trust with his trainers. Early socialization with people, animals, and environments laid the foundation for everything that followed.
Basic Obedience & Public Access
Sit, stay, heel, focus, leave it. Oakley absorbed commands with remarkable speed. Public access training began — stores, parks, and busy spaces where a service dog must stay calm and attentive.
PTSD Task Training Begins
Specialized task work started: deep pressure therapy, interrupting repetitive behaviors, creating personal space in crowds, and waking from nightmares. Oakley showed exceptional emotional attunement from the start.
Advanced Skills & Reliability
Tasks were proofed in real-world environments. Oakley demonstrated the consistency and reliability required of a working service dog — performing under distraction, in new places, and with unfamiliar people.
Matched & Mission Ready
Oakley was matched with a veteran in Alabama. After a careful pairing process, he was certified as ready for placement. On September 18th, he heads to his forever home to begin the work he was born to do.
